Vaccinations

When your pet is vaccinated, you will receive a Certificate of Vaccination, as well as a tag in the case of Rabies. While Rabies it the only vaccination required by law every three years, we recommend (depending on your pet's exposure level) annual to triennial vaccinations against DHLP/Parvo for dogs and Upper Respiratory diseases for cats, as these are very common and potentially fatal.

If you are unsure of the vaccinations you need, or just have questions, you can contact us by phone, by email, or we will be happy to speak with you at the time of your visit.

In addition to dogs and cats, we also treat ferrets. While the state does not require them to be vaccinated, if your ferret is frequently exposed to other animals, we do recommend treating him or her. Please call ahead if you plan to bring your ferret(s) so we can make sure to have the vaccine on hand.

Heartworm Tests

We offer heartworm tests for dogs with results in about 10 minutes. As mosquitoes are a large part of life in Texas, we recommend a heartworm test in several situations. Pets who have never been treated with a heartworm preventative are at a very high risk for contracting heartworms, and we recommend immediate testing, as heartworm disease is serious and potentially fatal.

For pets who are on regular prevention, we recommend a test at least every two years. However, if you use the preventative Sentinel, or are wishing to start, we are required to perform or have proof of a negative test every year due to the nature of the medicine.

We are proud to carry the resQ Pet Identification System, a safe and convenient ISO-compliant (International Organization for Standardization) microchip system to help reunite lost pets with their owners. ResQ offers the first scanner for animal shelters and veterinarians that can read all brands of tested microchips currently sold in the United States, and the first no-cost pet registry.

The microchip is a little larger than a grain of rice and fits in a hypodermic needle. The chip is inserted under the skin of the scruff of your pets' neck. Each microchip carries a unique number that is registered to you and your pet.

Having a microchip can mean the difference between life or death if your pet is ever lost. Unfortunately, many lost or stolen pets are not returned to their owners due to the lack of identification. With a quick and painless shot, your pet will never be without identification again.

Deworming

If you know your dog or cat has internal parasites, or have a new puppy or kitten, we have just the thing to make them right as rain. Prices vary by type of parasite and pet weight, so please inquire by phone, email, or in person for pricing.

Austin City Registration

Austin has a city ordinance that requires all dogs and cats to be licensed through the Pet Registry program. If your pet is ever lost, a registration tag just may be his or her ticket home, especially if the Animal Center is involved.

A current rabies vaccination is required in order to register a pet. Pets that are spayed or neutered can receive a Lifetime Pet Registration for just $5.00. Pets that are intact (not spayed or neutered) must be registered every year, and the price is $20.00 per year.
